How does AI see your job? Transforming chemistry with ZAROF and the CTC

How do you explain a future profession - without old-fashioned means and phrases? The “Center for the Transformation of Chemistry” (CTC) and a high school in Eilenburg near Leipzig wanted to create exhibition spaces to give students an understanding of future prospects in the chemical industry. PIO was commissioned by the CTC and its partner ZAROF to design the wall panels - and used generative AI to illustrate in words and images what makes each profession so special.

Task

In the near future, the high school pupils will have to decide which career path they want to take. Our aim is not only to inform young people about career opportunities in the chemical industry, but also to inspire and at the same time introduce them to future technologies such as AI - and all this with just a handful of posters.

Implementation

PIO asked itself: How do we get the students to really engage with the information boards? How can we make sure to give them an idea of the professions and arouse their curiosity? The answer: The posters have to speak for themselves. They should not only explain the future, but they should be part of the future themselves.

We therefore gave the task to the AI tools ChatGPT and MidJourney - and asked: How do you imagine the profession of a chemical laboratory technician? A data scientist? A process engineer?

Result

The result: six eye-catching poster motifs were created that introduce the students to different professions in an unusual way. The highlight: we wrote down the prompts used to generate the text and image content on the posters to encourage the pupils to emulate and prompt themself.

And was the AI actually right? The students were able to check out a link on the poster whether the idea of ChatGPT and Midjourney corresponded to reality - and actively familiarize themselves with their future career options.

Thanks to the special design of the wall panels, we not only managed to increase the exposure time and convey the information about the professions in an appealing way. We also brought the students into direct contact with generative AI and aroused their interest in working with innovative technologies in the future.
